Family Clothing Guide for Maternity or Newborn Portrait Sessions
Are you planning to have your family join in your maternity or newborn session? I sure hope so! Those family portraits right before baby is born and those first portraits of your new family all together are priceless! So it’s worth it to add your husband or significant other as well as babies siblings into a few photos. You will be so glad you did!
Colors to Consider
Earth tones, like beige, khaki, olive green, taupe, pale pink, cream and browns are all great colors for my “home studio” for your newborn session, as well as outdoor locations you might choose for maternity. These tones are flattering to most skin tons and help keep the focus on you and your family with simple soft colors.
Moms
For your Maternity Session, please refer to my blog post about maternity sessions, but just know I do have several dresses, and you are free of course to choose any of your own dresses that you feel flatter you and make you feel your best!
During your newborn session moms generally prefer to be photographed above the waist, however if you want full length family photos, we will do that as well. I recommend wearing a pattern-less dress or blouse with pants. Moms often prefer a 3/4 length sleeve as that is most flattering. You set the stage for your family photos. Choose something that you feel lovely in and coordinate your family around you.
Dads
Dads should choose a SOLID colored long or short sleeved shirt, or knit sweater with earthy tones to coordinate with mom(but not match)
Siblings
For BOYS: Jeans or khaki pants paired with a solid neutral colored shirt/sweater that compliments mom an dad’s clothing choices.
NO LOGOS PLEASE!
For Girls: A simple dress with no pattern or a very subtle pattern looks best. Soft pinks, cream or beige is very lovely.
